Excursion in the enchanted valley of the Necropolis of Ferrone, crossing the typical landscape of the Tolfa Mountains, dotted with the characteristic fountains and herds of grazing animals.
At the junction for Monte Castagno, park. Follow the dirt road and at the first crossroads continue to the right up to a Maremma gate to pass.
After passing a small ford, always follow the main road up to the top of the hill where the path runs alongside private fences.
At an iron gate on the left you enter by crossing a pass.
Follow the dirt road inside the property to another pass below. Continue along a single track next to a ditch that goes up and leads to the entrance to the main dirt road that climbs to the right to Castellina del Ferrone. The Etruscan Necropolis of Ferrone is located on a tuffaceous plateau and enjoys a position overlooking the valley of the river Lenta, it is characterized by the presence of monumental chamber tombs, of the tumulus type, and cube tombs, i.e. with a parallelepiped external structure , which, at the current state of research, are the only known examples on the Tolfa Mountains.
On the way back, take the same road up to the first pass and from the iron gate turn left and at the first crossroads right, skirting the Fosso Ferrone up to a large fountain with several basins. From here, always turn right onto the main mule track up to Via Rainone.
