Allumiere in the heart of the Tolfa Mountains
Allumiere owes its current name to the discovery of alunite quarries, a mineral from which rock alum, an important element in leather and textile processing, is obtained.
Inhabited by the Etruscans, who left traces of their heritage in the necropolis and in all the artefacts now on display at the Archaeological and Natural History Museum, animated above all by agriculture in Roman times and throughout the Middle Ages, with sanctuaries, natural beauty and a noteworthy wine and food heritage.
Allumiere is permeated by a strong sense of community that manifests itself in the organisation of events, festivals and village feasts and is brought alive every year with the traditional 'palio delle contrade'.
