Tarquinia sacred center of the Etruscans
Tarquinia is certainly well known for its beauty and strategic position, but above all for the presence of the Etruscan Necropolis, a UNESCO SITE together with the necropolis of Cerveteri.
The strong presence of the Etruscan civilisation in this city is still very much alive today, and is a source of pride and prestige for the people of Tarquinia.
Etruscan Tarkna was located about ten kilometres from the coast, where its main port, Gravisca, was a powerful Mediterranean emporium.
Tarquinia is the land of kings... In connection with Rome from very ancient times, it gave this city the dynasty of the Etruscan kings Tarquinius Priscus, Servius Tullius and Tarquinius the Proud, who played a major role in the history of the Latin city.
