Simple and evocative itinerary suitable for everyone that retraces ancient roads with important archaeological evidence.
From the parking lot along the Braccianese Claudia road, take a path dug into the tuff near the Serafini houses to the Pian della Conserva area where you enter by crossing a pass. The Pian della Conserva necropolis area is the largest of the Tolfa Mountains, the tuffaceous plateau extends for over a kilometer and a half and is immersed in the valley of the Mignone river between the Vergine and Acqua Bianca ditches. It seems that the road between Tolfa and Pian della Conserva has been used in all historical periods.
After a few hundred meters you come across a pre-Roman road, the so-called Via Sacra, dug by the ancient hearses that used to go up to bury the deceased on the plain, which crosses the necropolis and flanks numerous Etruscan and about ten Roman tombs. The Etruscan remains found date back to the Bronze Age and the Proto-Villanovian culture (11th century BC).
