Pleasant itinerary in the heart of the Monti della Tolfa among grascete and gentle luxuriant hills to discover ancient ruins and Mount Piantangeli.
To the left of the Fontanile di Baldone, climb up to the crossroads of Casale del Tecchio, alternating landscapes characterized by verdant countryside and Turkey oak woods.
Turn right up to one of the most unknown and fascinating places in Lazio: the ruins of an early medieval monastery from the Carolingian era and the surrounding village, located in a control point over the Mignone Valley below, which offers a breathtaking, and probably abandoned in the mid-14th century. After admiring the visible remains of the ancient structure with three naves of the Abbey, continue to the summit of Mount Piantangeli.
You cross a grasceta and descend along the ancient path of the monks, used in the past by the Benedictines to transport the water necessary for the sustenance of the community, returning to the Fontanile di Baldone.
It should be noted that in the area there are the so-called Sassi Scritti: enigmatic memorial stones numbered and with Roman letters whose origins are still shrouded in mystery but which, according to a 1795 document found by Felice Tidei in the Municipal Archives, were boundary markers.
