Fascinating itinerary to visit the most evocative and interesting Etruscan tombs of the necropolis of San Giuliano as well as the mysterious and fascinating places scattered within the Marturanum Park.
Departure from the equipped refreshment area Caiolo from here moves in a westerly direction following the path on the plateau that leads to the westernmost rocky spur, where a beautiful panorama opens up on the gorges, the area in spring and early summer gives the wonder of colorful flower fields..
Go back on the same path keeping to the right where there is a path that bends towards the south downhill. Go down until you cross the structure that allows you to visit the Tomb of the Deer from above.
Go down the path with the help of the existing structures (handrail and steps) thus arriving at the Tomb of the Queen. If you want to see the Tomb of the Deer from below and admire a beautiful view upwards, take the path to the right in a westerly direction that runs alongside the bed of the Verlongo stream, otherwise continue eastwards to the left.
A little further on, you cross a ford with suggestive tombs a few meters above the level of the stream. Wade and follow the path in a southerly direction which leads to the ditch of S. Simone. At the crossroads of the paths that are found there, keep right to go up to S. Giuliano, at the top you will immediately see the walls.
It is advisable to visit the plateau with the fortified church and the Roman baths, and enjoy the views over the gorge.
Go back down the same road and, once you reach the crossroads, keep right to go to S. Simone fording the ditch and climbing up for a few metres.
Visit the beautiful tombs inserted in a suggestive naturalistic context and continuing to climb the Cima tumulus.
Going back down the same road and when you reach the crossroads of the paths, keep right to visit the area of S. Simone with its beautiful rupestrian church.
Continue in an easterly direction where there is a small detour to the left, in a northerly direction, which leads back to Caiolo. Cross the ford and return to the left, west, to see the beautiful tomb in Palazzina. From here, follow the signs for Caiolo and take a short but fairly steep climb that takes you back to the Caiolo plateau where you can visit the particularly fascinating and mysterious Caiolo tumulus, South West.
