Description
The exhibition is the result of collaboration between the Archaeological Park of Cerveteri and Tarquinia, the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the province of Viterbo and for Southern Etruria, and the UMR 8546 AOROC - CNRS/ENS PSL Paris.
The exhibition focuses on the Etruscan red-figure stamnos of 'Marce Atie,' discovered in July 2022, in the Lattanzi tomb sector of the Norchia necropolis (VT). Accompanied by multimedia content, the exhibition unfolds inside a small funerary chamber, reproduced in its actual dimensions with the volumetric restoration of its three sarcophagi, as found by archaeologists at the time of discovery.
This large banquet vase represents an exceptional discovery, both for its rich iconography, depicting characters from the Trojan War, and for the uniqueness of the epigraphic apparatus accompanying the mythic scenario, whose tale is evoked here as a reflection of the Etruscan aristocratic ideals on the eve of the Roman conquest.
The display includes, alongside the stamnos, the few remains of the funerary goods that escaped looting from illegal excavations.
